In Rainbow Class we enjoy exploring and learning through play, following a curriculum inspired by seasonal change, the environment around us and carefully chosen texts. When children first start in Rainbow Class, we spend time getting used to new routines and learning about being at school.

We follow the EYFS curriculum which helps develop curiosity and creativity as well as a willingness to 'have a go'. We develop skills which help us to read and write and to understand numbers, this helps to prepare us for when we move up into Year One. At the end of the Reception year, we assess progress against the Early Learning Goals.

Please scroll down to look at our Curriculum and use the linked documents to find out more about your child's learning. We hope you find the Rainbows page useful.

Reading in Rainbow Class

Reading Spine

A reading spine is a curated "core" list of essential, high-quality books. It acts like a literary map, ensuring every pupil builds a shared bank of stories that develop their imagination and vocabulary. By focusing on these specific "must-read" titles, the school helps children move from simple picture books to complex novels with confidence and a genuine love for reading.

Recommended Reading

Our friends at School Reading List have put together a list of recommended reading books for children in Rainbow Class. All widely available to buy or pick up from a local library there's even more to enjoy together at home.

No Outsiders Reading List

We proactively teach about Difference and Diversity in each class and as a wider school as part of our therapeutic ethos. We want to ensure that diversity is represented and explored through safe and supportive activities and discussion. Our No Outsiders programme supports this through stories and planned lessons and assemblies.

You can find out more on our Diversity and Equality page.
