WELCOME TO YEAR 5
Hello from your teachers

Mr Hunt
Teacher

Miss Coleman
HLTA
In Year 5, students enjoy a rich and engaging curriculum with links between subjects where possible to broaden and deepen their understanding. This is further reinforced through curriculum-related trips, visits and themed dress-up days which are a highlight for students and adults! Additionally, they step out of their comfort zones during an adventurous two-day trip to Wokingham Waterside Centre and participate in the Leadership Skills Foundation PlayMaker Award; enhancing their leadership skills in preparation for Year 6 roles like House Captains, Sports Ambassadors, Play Leaders and leading clubs for their peers.
Scroll down to look at our Curriculum. You will find a 'Curriculum Map', which will show you what we are covering throughout the year. Please use the documents to talk about your child's learning at home.
Reading in Year 5
Reading Spine
A reading spine is a curated "core" list of essential, high-quality books. It acts like a literary map, ensuring every pupil builds a shared bank of stories that develop their imagination and vocabulary. By focusing on these specific "must-read" titles, the school helps children move from simple picture books to complex novels with confidence and a genuine love for reading.

Recommended Reading

Our friends at School Reading List have put together a list of recommended reading books for children in Year 5. All widely available to buy or pick up from a local library there's even more to enjoy together at home.
No Outsiders Reading List

We proactively teach about Difference and Diversity in each class and as a wider school as part of our therapeutic ethos. We want to ensure that diversity is represented and explored through safe and supportive activities and discussion. Our No Outsiders programme supports this through stories and planned lessons and assemblies.
