SCHOOL TOURS
At Long Lane we firmly believe that prospective parents should have the opportunity to see the school in action, with live lessons and a chance to hear about what our children and staff think of their school community and ethos.
We offer 'live' tours at different times of the day and we limit our tours to six people so that you are able to ask the vital questions that give reassurance on your chosen school setting and whether it is right for your child.

All of our tours are conducted by our Headteacher to ensure that you get the best information about the school's ethos and curriculum. In the meantime, please take a look at our school prospectus (which has links to our latest OFSTED report and parent questionnaire from November 2024).

FEEDBACK FROM LONG LANE TOURS
We always ask for feedback from our Prospective parent tours. We really value your perspective and want to ensure that you can see our vision, values and principles in action when you visit us.
‘Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful school with me this morning, I can see that my son would absolutely love it and thrive in such a nurturing, positive and well rounded environment. He spotted me visiting while he was in preschool and is desperate to come to the big school, so Long Lane will be going down as my first choice and I'll be praying that, despite not being in catchment, we manage to get a place (we are closer to Long Lane at 0.332km than we are our catchment school!) Fingers crossed for a low birth rate year and space for us!
Keep doing what you are doing, you have a school to be very proud of!
Many thanks again,’

‘I just wanted to pass on my thanks for a fantastic, informative tour.
I had been almost dreading the prospect of our daughter beginning school, knowing how brutal, and developmentally inappropriate, the transition from reception to KS1 is in the majority of primary schools. Seeing your fantastic school in action has changed that dread to excitement! Thank you for putting the children first.’
I was really impressed with the school when I toured it and would love for my daughter to go here! Fingers crossed. I shall be submitting my application shortly.’
Parent Learning Tours

School tours aren't just for new parents. We are so proud of our school that we encourage parents to come and view the wonderful learning in our school many times during the year. It is important that, as a parent, you get to see the reality of our learning in and out of the classroom and have a good understanding of how your children spend their day.

Our staff welcome visitors and are used to visitors and other adults visiting them to see the great learning taking place. Children are excited to be visited by SLT and take pride in speaking about what they are doing.

We believe that children need to be able to talk about their learning, the purpose, pre-learning, what tools help them, and where their learning is going. This is all part of taking accountability and being an 'active learner'.
Our learning ambassadors are key to this as we encourage all our children to answer questions about their learning on a regular basis. Any child can be a Learning Ambassador, they are different everytime and they are volunteers. For many, this shows courage and resilience.
Welcome Time & Open Classrooms
We love to invite parents to spend time with their children in class. Apart from the many events that we hold for parents such as Reading Breakfasts, Collaborative Learning, Coffee Mornings and Parent Appreciation Mornings, each class will have a number of Welcome Time events in the school year.
From Parent voice, we have organised our Welcome Time Sessions into three types of events;

-
Collaborative – this is where parents are invited into their child's class to share a collaborative experience or activity with them.
-
Showcase – this where pupils wish to share an exhibition or performance of something they have been working on (musical or dramatic performance, writing showcase or exhibition of art/D and T).
-
CPD – this is where the school will share some insight on an aspect of learning including some initial CPD in the hall followed by open classrooms to see this aspect of learning in action across the school.

The school usually holds 2 or 3 CPD Welcome Time events per year and each class will host 1 collaborative and 1 showcase per year. These will be communicated through the dates list sent to parents each term.
