Reading

Reading is a fundamental part of our curriculum, aimed at fostering a lifelong love of reading in our pupils. We believe that reading is essential for developing resilience and learning across all subjects, setting the foundation for future success. Our reading curriculum focuses on:

-
Developing independent reading skills starting with phonics.
-
Building confidence and ambitious vocabulary.
-
Enhancing fluency and oracy through reading aloud.
-
Engaging pupils with diverse, high-quality texts.
-
Encouraging resilience through comprehension practice.
-
Promoting reading at home and in the community.

We use the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme for early reading development, followed by the Accelerated Reader scheme for more advanced readers. Regular assessments ensure targeted support and progress.
We maintain strong partnerships with parents through reading records, workshops, and events. Our classrooms and library are rich in high-quality texts, and we have initiatives like Reading Ambassadors to support younger readers.

Our goal is for all pupils to become enthusiastic, habitual readers by the end of their primary education, equipped with the skills for future academic success and a deeper understanding of the world.
