Writing

Writing is a fundamental skill integrated throughout our curriculum. The school aims to create proficient, resilient writers who are motivated to revise, edit, and publish their work.
The curriculum emphasizes high-quality literature, oracy skills, and a structured writing process to develop competent writers. Starting from the Foundation Stage, children engage in activities to strengthen fine motor skills and learn phonics, progressing to more complex writing tasks as they advance through the school.

The writing process includes familiarization with text types, capturing ideas, teacher demonstration, collaborative writing, and independent writing. Editing is taught early, encouraging self and peer assessment. The school uses the RWI Spelling Programme and Nelson Thorne Handwriting scheme to ensure consistency and progression in spelling and handwriting.

Regular assessments, including phonics and spelling tests, self and peer assessments, and teacher evaluations, help tailor support to individual needs. The school values home-school partnerships, offering workshops and sessions to support parents. Monitoring and improvement plans ensure the curriculum aligns with national standards and the school's vision.
